Choosical: A Sprouts Creative program
Choosical is led by two creative practitioners with expertise in mental health, music and young people.
Sharni Page is a practising psychodramatist experienced in group facilitation. Bridget a’Beckett is a composer, songwriter and creative producer. Together they provide young people with an exhilirating and revelatory deep dive into emotional literacy.
An opportunity for students to work together to discover out-of-the-box solutions for challenges they may face at school or home like making friends, isolation, bullying and anxiety.
Students are guided through a technique to activate their creative thinking processes for the purposes of social and emotional problem-solving. Whilst the activities look and feel like fun for participants, they are in fact carefully curated to optimise the mind and body connection to provide deeper learning outcomes. As the growing base of evidence demonstrates, “quote. when mind and body are …., they achieve these results”.
By distilling their discoveries into a song brief, students are embedding their learning into working memory. The integration of music at this point facilitates the transfer of new knowledge to the long-term memory, which is the aspect of the brain that drives behavioural change.

Week 2:

- Duration – 1.5 – 2 hrs
- Requirements – A cleared classroom, whiteboard and markers, paper and pens for each student
Week 3:
- No student engagement this week unless agreed prior. (The Sprouts are songwriting)
Week 4:

This is the unique experience that makes a Sprouts Creative workshop special. Students are gently led through a process that connects their bodies and minds through collective problem-solving exercises that include sculptural play, role reversal and reflection. The students are almost always surprised by the depth of their discoveries and the ease with which they could access their creative thinking as a result.
After a conversation with teachers, we compile a list of relevant topics from which the students choose the one they would most like to explore. By choosing as a collective they are acknowledging the shared experience and will enter the group workshop space having thought about how it applies to them as individuals.
